Free Video for your Classroom
ng.gifVideo has taken the web by storm and educators are struggling, it seems, to sort and locate quality, educational videos for their students. While Youtube remains clearly the #1 free video service, much of the content in its Educational Channel is pitiful, and despite its interesting, semi-philanthropic Symphony, Youtube remains largely unusable in the classrom and blocked entirely by many District School Boards.

LessonGateway.com empathizes with teachers looking for superior, free, online educational video and suggests the following terrific providers as a starting place.

National Geographic's Video Collection is unparallelled and contains original footage of newsworthy events, space-related phenomena, animals, insects, and more.

discovery.gifIn Discovery.com's Video Collection, teachers will find full-length episodes of classic television shows like 'Storm Chasers', 'Treasure Chest' & 'Wreckreation'. This collection is also browsable by topic including Dinosaurs, Archaeology, Space, History and more.

Not to be outdone, Biography.com's Video Collection is formidable and provides video biographies of significant individuals including a recent series addition, Barack Obama (Parts 1-7).

Similarly The History Channel provides a signficant portion of its shows online.  Boasting shows such as Ancient Discoveries, Extreme Trains & Gangland, this website is as solid as its sister TV Channel.

pbs.gifLastly, PBS has recently launched its new video portal - an online gateway to most of its Television shows.  Featuring full-length episodes of Nova, Frontline, Antique Roadshow, TheNewsHour and more, PBS has truly outdone themselves from an educator's perspective.

Go ahead, browse, immerse yourself and enjoy!
