The virtual fishing game at the Cloud Institute For Sustainability Education website does a nice job illustrating that maximizing short run profits (i.e. by overfishing) leads to long term problems (i.e. no fish!).  Students earn money for each fish they catch, however there is a limit to how quickly the fish can reproduce so if they're not careful students will run out of fish to catch.
